A Message From Our President

Over the past years I have served on staff at two churches, and worked in a consulting role with all kinds of churches throughout the U.S. I have come to appreciate the great difficulties most pastors face as they try to faithfully serve the local church. My heart has been constantly stirred to help them in any way that I can so that their churches can be more healthy and effective.

Management expert Peter Drucker has described pastors as the “most frustrated profession” in the nation. Why is that? The demands that are placed upon pastors are staggering. It is impossible to fill all of the competing demands for time, energy and resources. Coupled with the demands, many pastors lack the practical training and skills necessary for leading healthy and effective churches. Many feel ill-prepared to deal with the very practical issues they face as they serve in our churches.

Most churches do not have intentional leadership training for pastors and church leaders, and most training institutions devote a minimal amount of time to the practical aspects of ministry. The result is a continual increase in pastoral frustration and leadership turnover.

I believe that a new kind of training institution can be part of the solution. That is why the International Graduate School of Ministry was founded. The keys we believe are:

  • Providing instructors (pastors, parachurch ministry leaders, and Seminary/Bible College instructors) who are recognized experts in the practical subjects they are teaching and who are involved in active ministry.
  • Focusing on the practical aspects of ministry whenever possible and moving from the traditional format of “sit-and-soak” to “action-based learning.”
  • Making classes easily accessible for students, and offering them in intensive formats that allow students to continue in their ministry work, while receiving additional training.
  • Recruiting students and instructors who are open and committed to all denominations and theological expressions that acknowledge Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. We believe significant interaction across the diverse cross-section of the Body of Christ strengthens us all and demonstrates the love and unity Jesus commanded.

I feel that we have begun a great adventure that can really help you grow personally and professionally. All of us at IGSM look forward to the opportunity to serve you.

Yours in Christ,

Dr. Henry Klopp, President

New Student Information About IGSM

The International Graduate School of Ministry (IGSM) is an interdenominational institute dedicated to providing graduate-level education with a Christ-centered focus. With multiple extension sites located throughout North America and several other nations, we offer you the ability to further your Christian education through a wide variety of academic programs.

International students who do not have permanent resident status in the United States will be considered for admission to the IGSM if they show evidence of their ability to guarantee financial support for themselves and all dependents that are accompanying them to the United States.

Students are allowed to take courses at IGSM as non-degree students, however those wishing to move into a degree program should not take more than two classes before enrolling in their desired degree program. There is a great degree of flexibility built into our academic programs so that the needs of all students may be addressed. If you have individual questions regarding which programs you may qualify for, they should be directed to the School Office.

It is the intention of IGSM to offer significant coursework through the distance-learning model, while at the same time offering on-site classes at its extensions throughout North America. Students in any of our programs are allowed to complete up to 50% of their graduation requirements through distance education. Course offerings will not be large initially, but are expected to grow at a faster rate than our on-site programs as students begin to take advantage of this option.

Course/Degree Information & Links

Classes at IGSM are offered in two basic formats:

  • Intensive formats at extension sites throughout North America -- In this format, students do their required reading before attending class for four consecutive days. After the on-site class students will do a written project that applies the information in the class to their unique setting.
  • Classes offered online via the Internet -- In these classes the students will also have reading requirements for each class. However, the instruction will be delivered via the Internet with specific times for interaction with the faculty member responsible for the class. Written projects will also be required for these classes. Those students choosing to take any of the Internet classes will need to have the necessary computer hardware and software to facilitate the classes as well as knowledge of how to use those resources. Students choosing to take classes via the Internet are allowed to take up to 50% of their degree requirement using this option.

Other Important Student Issues & Links

This area addresses some of the common issues/questions that many students have. The information provided here is simply an overview. Detailed information can be found in our Policies & Standards, the Student Handbook, or by following the links provided below.

Housing:
Host homes can usually be arranged for students who live a considerable distance from an extension site, but are attending an on-site class. Students will be sent a Housing and Airline Information form along with each course syllabus.

Transportation:
Graduate students must arrange their own transportation to and from the on-site classes. If proper advance notification has been submitted on the Housing and Airline Information form described earlier, transportation from the airport to host homes can often be arranged.

Non-Discrimination Policy:
The IGSM does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national or ethnic origin in the administration of its educational policies, admissions policies, scholarships, or any other school administered programs. IGSM admits qualified men and women to all privileges, programs and activities generally accorded or made available to students at the school. Based on IGSM’s mission to equip students for Christian ministry, those admitted to the school are required to be Christians.
